Through small scenarios in each classroom – accompanied by a charming cast of characters – you have to mix things or make drawings, for example.
Each box is actually a small playing field where you get an introduction to the enormous amounts of interaction and creativity this game has to offer. Class is in session!īut what exactly do you do at this alien school? Take lessons, of course! There are several classrooms in Cosmonious High, each of which has its own “subject” and revolves around things like gym, art, music, and chemistry, though they’ve put their own spin on them in-game (for example, chemistry is affectionately known as “Chemosophy”). Furthermore, the animations and effects are very well put together, just like the almost perfect frame rate of 90 frames per second and Cosmonious High has quite a few corners to explore. In any case, we thought it was a nice change from the dark, gloomy games that we are regularly presented with.

The art style is simple and seems to have been pulled straight from an 8-year-old’s sketchbook, which is a plus for some, but may be a bit too childish for others.

Cosmonious High and its characters are brought to life through a cell-shaded style and are full of colors that splash off the screens, partly due to the OLED panels. The first thing you notice is the visual style. Soon you receive your first power and you are quite literally putting out a number of fires in the early minutes. You can therefore use one power in each hand, such as spewing fire or water or telekinetic powers. With a tap on the back of your hand you can switch between your different powers. Prisms are unique aliens, as they can soak up a variety of skills over time, which they can then deploy through their hands for different situations. That doesn’t go smoothly, because instead of a quiet reception, the school bus pounds right through the front door, all kinds of things have been messed up and there is the necessary chaos in the school corridors. You step into the shoes of a Prismi, a funny little alien who is about to experience his first day at Cosmonious High. The big difference? This school is located in space, has a lot of colorful figures and the curriculum contains anything but the standard subjects such as Dutch, English, history and mathematics.

Those days are now in the past, but through Cosmonious High from Owlchemy Labs – previously known for mischievous VR titles like Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator – we may still be able to relive some of those moments.
